Summertime is a great time to experiment with all the fresh herbs and produce that comes out of the garden.  Quite frankly, I will be making the Watermelon Rosemary Refresher long after summer is done.  It is a great alternative to water without any of the guilt.  On top of all that it is beautiful focal point for any gathering.”

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 personal watermelon, cubed
  • 6-8 sprigs of fresh rosemary, washed thoroughly before use
  • 1-2 bowls of ice cubes

DIRECTIONS

1.  Cube 1/2 of personal watermelon.

2.  Clean rosemary from garden.

3.  Add watermelon and rosemary to beverage dispenser with spigot.  (We used a 3 gallon, glass dispenser purchased at Costco.)

4.  Add 1-2 bowls of ice cubes.  You can judge how much you will need/want.

5.  Fill with water, tap or filtered.

6.  Muddle/stir with wooden spoon.  Let sit for an hour before enjoying this incredibly refreshing water.

Chef Notes:

Kids will be drawn to the color, they will not miss the sugar.

Not only is this low sugar, refreshing beverage tasty it offers an extra punch of vitamins and antioxidants.  Watermelon has much to offer, packed with Beta Carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamins. Oh, and don’t forget what gives it its’ pink/red color inside, lycopene!  Rosemary has a reputation for improving memory, most likely by the increased circulation to the brain that it is said to occur when ingesting fresh rosemary.  Read more about rosemary on Wikipedia.

Hydration is one of the most important things we can do for our over all well being.  Making it taste fabulous without preservatives and chemical sugars ensures we will be more likely to accomplish ideal levels of hydration.  Being propertly hydrated will make your skin appear more supple and essentially young, your body will rid itself of toxins easier and your muscles and joints will work better.
