There is nothing more refreshing than fruit and herb infused waters.  This orange basil water is one of my favorite combinations.  It is both visually appealing and ultra refreshing.  This is a great alternative to plain water for gatherings and celebrations.”

INGREDIENTS

  • 1-2 oranges, sliced
  • 3-4 branches of fresh basil, washed thoroughly and trimmed to first leaf on branch
  • 2-3 cups of ice cubes

DIRECTIONS

1.  Slice oranges.  Set aside.

2.  Wash fresh basil from the garden.  Trim up to first leaf, leaving bunch of leaves in tact.

3.  Add orange slices and basil to large glass pitcher.  (If you care to use a large glass dispenser with spigot, increase oranges to 4 sliced and basil to 6-8 branches/off shoots.)

4.  Add 2-3 cups of ice cubes.  You can judge how much you will need/want.

5.  Fill with water, tap or filtered.  ( A great alternative is sparkling mineral water.)

6.  Gently stir with wooden spoon to allow basil and ice to be interspersed with orange slices.   Let sit for an hour to allow flavors to permeate the water and meld together.  Enjoy orange basil water.

Chef Notes:

Kids and adults alike will be drawn to the vibrant colors.  They will not miss the sugar.

Make this an everyday part of your routine.  You do not need to wait for company or a celebration.  We often keep water infused with fruit and herbs on our kitchen counter.  Not only do we tend to drink more water, it brightens the kitchen.
