This crisp and light dairy free coleslaw is a refreshing alternative to the mayonnaise drenched traditional coleslaw.  This dairy free version of a picnic favorite will have you humming.  The flavor is fabulous.  The perfect side at a family fish fry.  This dish also pairs great with grilled chicken and corn on the cob.”

 

>> INGREDIENTS 
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh juice from an orange
  • 1/2 C cider vinegar
  • 2/3 C salad oil
  • ¼ cup dry white wine like Chardonnay
  • head of cabbage shredded
  • ¼ cup green bell pepper minced
  • ¼ onion minced

> > DIRECTIONS

1. Make dressing first.  Bring all ingredients (Sugar, salt, dry mustard, celery seed, garlic powder, orange juice, cider vinegar, salad oil, and white wine) through wine to a boil and then cool until ready to use.

2. While dressing is cooling, make slaw.

3.  Mince bell pepper and onion.

5.  Add cabbage, bell pepper, and onion to a salad bowl.

6.  Drizzle dressing over slaw.
